Jeopardy!

Think fast, answer in the form of a question, and race the clock to prove you're the ultimate trivia master. Jeopardy! is the gold standard of quiz shows, known for its signature answer-and-question format and intellectually challenging clues.

Created by Merv Griffin, Jeopardy! first aired on NBC in 1964 with Art Fleming as host. The modern syndicated version launched on September 10, 1984 with Alex Trebek, who hosted more than 8,200 episodes over 37 seasons before his passing in November 2020. Ken Jennings — the show's most successful contestant, with a 74-game winning streak in 2004 — became permanent host starting with Season 40.

What makes it unique: Jeopardy! flips the quiz-show formula: contestants are given the answer and must supply the question. Three rounds (Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy) reward not just knowledge but wagering strategy, category selection, and buzzer timing. The show has produced cultural landmarks — Ken Jennings' streak, James Holzhauer's aggressive wagering style, the Greatest of All Time tournament, Jeopardy! Masters, and Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Prime Video.
