The Price Is Right
Come on down! The Price Is Right is the most successful and longest-running game show in U.S. television history — a frenzy of pricing games, the spinning Big Wheel, and contestants shouting bids from Contestants' Row for a chance to win cars, cash, and trips.
Created by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, the original Price Is Right aired 1956–1965 on NBC with Bill Cullen. The modern CBS version premiered on September 4, 1972 with Bob Barker, who hosted for 35 years and more than 6,500 episodes before retiring in 2007. Drew Carey took over on October 15, 2007 and has hosted the show ever since, joined by announcer George Gray and a rotating cast of models including James O'Halloran, Manuela Arbeláez, Devin Goda, Rachel Reynolds, and Alexis Gaube.
What makes it unique: More than 70 distinct pricing games have been played over the show's 50-plus-year run — Plinko, Cliff Hangers, Punch-a-Bunch, Hole in One, 1 Right Price, Grocery Game, and dozens more — each with its own rules, props, and strategic quirks. The Showcase Showdown Big Wheel (added in 1975) and the end-of-episode Showcase bidding ritual give the show a three-act rhythm that viewers have memorized for generations. The Price Is Right has taped more than 9,000 episodes across 54 seasons.
